NMRN Operations is the operational company of the National Museum of the Royal Navy Group which includes NMRN Trading. Our data protection registration number is: ZA223147.  This privacy notice explains what personal information we collect when you use this or any of the NMRN websites.

What Information Do We Collect About You? 

We collect information about you when you purchase a ticket or make a purchase from our online shop. We will also collect information about you if you choose to join our membership scheme, make a donation or contact us via email. Website usage information is collected via cookies. 

How Do We Use The Information Collected About You? 

We collect information about you to fulfil your order/request or manage your account which may include sending you email correspondence, if you choose not to provide this information we will be unable to carry out your request. The information you provide will only be used to send you marketing information if you agree to this when providing your details. We will always ask you to opt in to any marketing communications and to make sure we get this right we will follow this up with an initial email asking you to confirm you would like to receive marketing information. If email us with an enquiry we may pass this information on to other members of staff who are better able to answer your enquiry. 

We may share your information with other companies within the NMRN group to fulfil your order or send you marketing information you have agreed to receive. We use third parties companies to send out email communications which helps to ensure that your information is kept secure. These companies will never contact you with other information or without instruction from NMRN.

We will not share or sell your data to any other companies. Data will be anonymised and assessed to review against business targets such as unique visits to the website or the different types of tickets sold via the website. We may tailor content you receive based on preferences or information you have provided. 

We may be required to share your information with third parties to the extent we are required to by law, in connection with legal proceedings and to establish or defend our legal rights (for example as an anti-fraud measure. All monetary transactions are carried out by third party DPSS compliant organisations and you should take the time to read their privacy notices. 

We will retain your information for the following periods:

  • General Enquiries     One year
  • Fulfilling an order    Seven years
  • Marketing purposes    Five years (After the last time we hear from you)
  • Curatorial Enquiries    Two years 

Security of Your Data

We will take all reasonable steps including technological and organisational procedures to ensure your data is safe. Data transmission via the inherent however is inherently dangerous and we cannot guarantee the safety of information sent over the internet. 

If you agree to receive marketing details we will contact you from time to time with offers, newsletters and information about our products and services that may be of interest to you.  You retain the right to withdraw your agreement for us to contact you for marketing purposes at any time. Some communications may need to take place despite your marketing preferences for the fulfilment of an order or confirmation of a direct debit. Essential communications such as this will not contain marketing information.
