Can we have fireworks or Chinese lanterns at our event?
Due to the residential area surrounding the Museum, we cannot permit these onsite.
Can we have a marquee in the grounds?
Yes, depending on the date of your event we do have space for a marquee. However, please note that our outside licence is to 8pm only.
Can we have balloons?
Due to the Museum’s high ceilings we do not allow balloons inside the building. However, balloon releases are permitted in the grounds.
Can we supply our own food or drinks?
We do not offer the option to bring your own food or drink to the Museum.
Do our guests have to pay for parking in the main car park?
No, we will issue you with parking permits to send to your guests, which need to be placed on their dashboard.
Can vehicles be left in the car park overnight?
Yes, as long as the event co-ordinator is made aware on the day of the event. We will need the registration number. The car park is not managed by the Museum.
Can we have a bouncy castle?
Yes, we can allow bouncy castles onsite. The events team will be able to give you more information with regards to having one for your function
Will there be Christmas decorations around the Museum for our event?
As we are open to the public, the Museum’s Christmas decorations go up on 1st December. However, we will always try to work with individual requests.
Are there any restrictions on flowers?
Due to the need to protect artefacts in the Museum, we cannot allow anything brought in with soil, such as potted plants. However, if you have any unusual ideas please discuss them with your event co-ordinator.
What entertainment can we have at our event?
The choice is entirely yours, although we ask you to discuss all entertainment with your event co-ordinator. The most common form of entertainment is a band and/or DJ. We do have recommended DJs, who will work with all requests for the event. For all other entertainment we will request their Portable Appliance Testing (P.A.T.) certificates along with Public Liability Insurance covering £5 million, at least 14 days before the date of the event.
Costs for your event
The cost for holding your event at the Museum depends on the time of the event, how long you will be using the Museum, the date and day of the week. When you visit the Museum one of our event co-ordinators can discuss all of your requirements with you and will be able to present you with an accurate cost for the venue.
Catering for your event
When you visit the Museum one of our event co-ordinators can discuss all of your requirements with you and will be able to present you with our recommended caterers’ details. The caterers will be able to create a bespoke package to your needs, tastes and budgets.

Yes, the museum is fully accessible to all wheelchair users.
